sailormanWe are traveling from NC to NH and back next week on vacation and I am looking for suggested castles or faux castles to visit along the route. I have been to Gillette (not a good comparison) and one overlooking the Hudson near Albany. But I am sure ther are others. And anyone who is building one that doesn't mind a visitor - i would be interested to seeing what others are making.
WhitemanfrtownThis is too comical.
I think I can actually help you with this. (chuckle)
I grew up in South Eastern CT. Thats where im planning on building mine. I tried to go to Gillete Castle but it was closed for renovation. Currently I live in Hawaii but I have relatives I keep in touch with regularly over there who have told me that they recently discovered some other guy made the papers with his creation of a folly.
I dont have much data but Ill call my relatives and get it. Not too far from Gillete. I wasnt too impressed with Gilletes either just from the photos I saw.
I believe its a private residence but then again anyone whos going to make something like that Im sure would be willing to have a fellow castle lover over for coffee.
My e-mail : Whitemanfrtown@aol.com
WhitemanfrtownMy uncle's still working on getting data.
Its in Stonington, Ct. Close to I-95 (I-95 almost runs through Stonington)

My uncle also told me about another one on a cliff side.. maybe 15 miles closer to you. Hard to get to - private residene, excentric guy who made one.
More when i hear from him.

WhitemanfrtownOk. see Dupontcastle.com/castles
sailormanOUTSTANDING!!!
Just what I wanted. Incorporating some of these sites into our travel plans. Found a castle facade in MD right on the Potomac on the way north.
